Perennial herbaceous as it is capable of spreading easily, the Californian poppy is native to California and Mexico.

It produces bright yellow / orange flowers from June to September and reaches a height of about half a meter.

The Californian Indians use the slightly anesthetic sap of this poppy to calm toothaches.

Eschscholzia californica is known in folk medicine for its sedative properties and effectiveness against headaches and sleep disorders.
